Allstate Mayhem

Mayhem

Hello and welcome back to project star.

Have you ever been driving but the car behind you just won't get off your back? Well in todays we will be going over this very event using the Allstate Mayhem Tailgater :30 ad. In the video Allstate targets drivers with average insurance.

The advertisement starts off with its antagonist and narrator Mayhem, who is in a black and white suit and tie but clearly has a cut on his head. In the ad he is portraying an impatient football fan recklessly driving by getting as close to the car ahead of him in an attempt to get the driver ahead to hurry up.

as Mayhem narrates it cuts to the victim ahead who is distracted by his driving. Next he mentions that "you're so busy watching me tailgate that you don't see the one in front of you". After this we see the victims has now hit the blue truck in front of him stopped at a red light. After this Mayhem drives past the crash and tells the audience "And your cut rate car insurance, it might not pay for this" and then encourages us to buy Allstate insurance so we can be protected from guys like him. Then the ad ends off with a blue title card displaying "Allstate, Are you in good hands?"

The point of the ad was obviously to sell its insurance, but it uses the oh so frequent tailgater to really push the point that, although your the victims, you are the one who is going to pay the consequences, that is why Mayhem mentions "...your cut rate car insurance, it might not pay for this".  Which should cause any driver to worry and really consider if what they have is enough to cover them if this very situation should occur, just because you are a good driver does not mean other people are. Allstate knows this and is trying to convince the viewers to buy in by then having  the tailgater say "so get Allstate and be better protected from mayhem, like me"  and ending the video with the company slogan "Are you in good hands?" to really have the audience debate if they are safe and to better consider switching to them.

In the end, the ads main goal was to have drivers pick their insurance over competitors by using reckless drivers to show individuals how their actions give us consequences.

  1. I liked how you analyzed the ad and made it short and sweet. It's true how insurance companies usually use relatable things like tailgating to sell their insurance, but it works. Keep writing and don't give up!
